Fish Hollow Pond
Printed on 200gsm Dazzling Dayglo-Pink paper, 210x297mm (A4), sold unframed
***Temporary photo of product; Ghosting on the image of print is a potography issue only, for reference same ink and paper as Pigeon cat pigeon print in store.
Early 1900’s metal lead-plate of Pike (signed by artist, though unable to identify further (sourced from America, intials look to be RobT. Palmer .19. ?). Early Wooden Script Type by Day & Collins (large), sourced from Forest Gate. Small metal 2 line Great Prima ‘Quill Pen’, by Caslon, circa 1880’s, Original Allcocks Devon minnow advert block and original 3 hook pennel rigged worm circa 1880 (tackle dealer unknow).
This print celebrates the golden days of fishing at Hollow Pond. The ponds were excavated for gravels and have held water since 1878 and I would guess fish soon after. In the 1970’s a large pike caught here was rumoured to be a record, though none seems to actually exist. In 2017 I met Brian Fratel who was in his final year managing Farlows since 1840, a prestigous fishing and shooting outfitters in Pall Mall. https://www.farlows.co.uk/ When I told him I lived in Leytonstone, his eyes lit up and he then proceed to recount his childhood specimen Gudgeon caught from Hollow Pond. A Corporation of London Report (Circa 2015), lists species currently present (interestingly no Gudgeon, though apparently good numbers at Julilee Pond. Tightlines Russell (Troutbum)
